The normal metabolism process of our body is such that first the carbohydrates are broken down for energy. In the absence of carbs, proteins are broken down and fat is the last to be digested.

When you fast, you do not provide proper nutrients for your body. In the absence of it, the body tries to break down proteins (which is otherwise reserved for repairing body cells and creating new cells) for energy. This is bad for the body. Also, protein breakdown puts the kidneys and livers under a lot of stress, and you may have disorders in those organs too.

    1. Fasting can be dangerous if you have health problems
    2. Fasting is recommended only if you are healthy
    3. Fasting for weight loss may not be effective as you will lose lots of fluid weight. It will distract you from healthy eating habits, which are most necessary for weight loss

The Drawbacks of fasting are that it deprives you of nutrition. In case you are doing fasting for weight loss then the weight loss is only short term and scientifically its a form of starvation.
