I have heard that smoking a menthol cigarette will create more damages than a normal cigarette. Is it true?

Menthol cigarette has a cooling effect. It might not create excess heat when you smoke. This might induce you to take more smoke at a time than the normal cigarette. This might result in more smoking related diseases than the normal smoking.

Smoking is smoking. It gives you a variety of diseases both in conventional cigarette smoking and menthol cigarette smoking. However the menthol cigarette might not aggravate the body temperature when compared to the regular cigarettes. You might have a better chance for lung cancer in both normal and menthol cigarette smoking.
